Welcome to 2019!

By Dr Sara Bux – Acting CIMA Africa Regional VP. I am delighted to welcome you to another year at the Association. This year, we plan to build on the successes of 2018 and achieve our newly set goals in order to bring you the best service.

There is so much to look forward to this year. We have the CIMA Centenary, enhancements to our CPD packages, updates to the CIMA Professional Qualification and competency framework, and the CGMA Africa Conference: Finance Transformation in the Digital World.

CIMA® Centenary – celebrating the past and embracing the future

CIMA® was founded to ensure that accounting better served the needs of business. A century on, we are at the heart of transforming organisations and leading those working in finance into the future. We are enabling students, members, and their employers to go beyond. Beyond insight. Beyond limits. Beyond expectations.

To our members, for a 100 years we have led the management accounting profession, prepared members for the world of work and future-proofed careers. We work to keep you ahead of the game and opportunity-ready.

To our students, we have been launching successful careers in finance for a century, and we’ll get you and future generations ready for the next 100 years. Employers around the world are guaranteed that our students and members are grounded in the skills and competencies that help protect and transform organisations for the road ahead.

This year’s centenary initiatives and events will celebrate excellence in management accounting and the success of CIMA® members and students – with a journey down memory lane to present-day and looking to the future. It is a great time to reflect on our past, and to focus on the future of the profession. You can find more about our centennial activities and events here

We are preparing students and members to succeed now and in the future

Our Future of Finance research reveals that the expanding mandates for finance, digital technologies and new sources of data are combining to change the shape of the finance function.

Using the research findings, we will be launching a refreshed competency framework and CIMA® Professional Qualification syllabus at the end of January to ensure continued relevance and employability of CGMA® designation holders. The Professional Qualification is geared towards addressing what employers tell us is their greatest need – the need for agile professionals who can work as trusted advisers across a range of finance roles. Students will benefit by developing an inquisitive mindset and a desire for lifelong learning. Armed with these skills, CIMA® students and CGMA® designation holders will lead their organisations to greater success and excel in this disruptive digital environment.

CGMA® Africa Conference: Finance Transformation in the Digital World

Finally, we look forward to welcoming you at the CGMA® Africa Conference 2019: Finance transformation in the digital world as we examine the changing shape of the finance function and how finance professionals can prepare for it.

The conference will take place in Cape Town, South Africa on 11 – 12 September 2019. Renowned speakers will take the stage at the Cape Town Convention Centre to share their thoughts on important themes like Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, automation and the skills finance professionals need to take on the challenges posed by these phenomena.

I look forward to continuing our journey together in one of the world’s leading and largest body of management accountants!
